Imported Products Must Apply Bahasa Indonesia

VIVAnews - Foreign products that will be imported to Indonesia are required to be labeled in Indonesian language starting this month. The policy aims to prevent forgery.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa said the labeling is a non-tariff effort in the Free Trade Agreement implementation.

“We have received reports from the challenge handling coordination team in the trade sector in terms of overcoming unstandardized products in the FTA implementation,” the Minister said at his office on Tuesday, January 19.

The team reported that they had applied an early warning system together with the Customs and Excise Directorate. The system will be utilized to monitor jumps in imports and the system’s performance.

“The officers are also ordered to check the Origin Letter (SKA) of the goods produced in Indonesia and abroad to avoid misuse,” Rajasa said.

The team has also asked the Customs and Excise Directorate to intensify supervision at five harbors that have been set as import routes.

According to Rajasa, the team is also coordinating re-negotiation on 228 tariff posts. However, the government cannot reveal how far the re-negotiation has been established.
