VIVAnews - Indonesia will host of Asia Pacific Koran Conference, which will take place at the Istiqlal Mosque and Cemara Hotel, Jakarta from May 7 to 10, 2010.
“The opening ceremony will be held at Istiqlal on May 7 after the Friday Prayer time,” the Head of the Committee, Junaedi Rahman said at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 5.
Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali and Communications and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring are planned to attend the event.
At least nine countries will be participating in the conference. They are Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Australia and China.
According to Rahman, Indonesia is trusted to host the conference due to the majority of Muslims in the country. “The trust has been given to Indonesian Koran Rabithah Ma’ahid that focuses on Koran memorizing”.
He also said the big theme of the conference was ‘The Roles of Huffazh (Koran memorizers) in the Society”. Rahman assumed the theme is used to emphasize the positions of the Huffazh among the people. “The theme will be able to map the extent of the Huffazh’s roles in contributing to the society, especially in social development”.
The four-day conference will be filled with various activities such as seminars, workshops, focus group discussions and visits to several Koran learning centers in Indonesia. “The conference is expected to produce constructive ideas for the development of global communities and recommendations for the participating countries,” Rahman said.
